Guide to Detectors API

The Detectors API can be used to build a count site capable to register several types of real-time data.

A count site represents a logical object (such as an intersection or a parking facility)  where speeds, flows, counts, etc. are measured using different technologies (for example,  loops and cameras). It is a logical aggregation of many type of hardware devices.

The architecture of a count site is defined through a hierarchy of objects shown in Relevant terms section.

Before they can be used to build a count site, all the elements of a count site must be registered.

The Detectors API supports several use cases, including:

  • Detectors management: You can phisically deploy different types of detectors in your area of interest, to measure different traffic parameters, for registering real time data provided by your traffic network instance.
  • Continuous monitoring: You can continuously monitor the detectors deployed into the traffic network to identify the existing traffic patterns that may trigger traffic control actions.
  • Integration with other systems/processes: The Detectors API can be integrated in some Visum processes or into existing traffic management systems and operational scenarios where different actions can be triggered by data collected from the field.
  • Management of measurement types: Through dedicated endpoints, you can manage and update the list of measurements types available for your count site.
  • Management of vehicle types: Through dedicated endpoints, you can manage and update the list of the types of vehicles that you can monitor.
